AIM-AHEAD AIHEC SimChart for Nursing Program - Academic Electronic Health Records
Purpose
The SimChart program is designed to meet the needs of TCU nursing departments faculty to implement and teach clinical documentation with the assistance of AI to promote data computation, secondary data analysis, health informatics as in leveraging technology to improve patients’ outcomes in clinical settings. Health and nursing informatics involve the integration of health care sciences, computer science, and information science to manage and communicate data, information, and knowledge in nursing and healthcare. When combined with AI technologies, can significantly improve how care is delivered, particularly for chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, heart disease, and hypertension.
Participants
Utilizing the AIHEC SimChart program, TCU faculty perform hands-on exercises that mirror clinical workflows, including patient intake, medical history documentation, order entry, and coding procedures. Through these simulated encounters, program awardees gain proficiency in navigating real-life EHR interfaces, monitoring trends and alerts for early interventions, data analytics, and ensuring compliance with ethical standards.

Outcomes
- Experiential learning approach promotes workforce development and enhances the ability to work within interdisciplinary healthcare teams, preparing learners for roles in nursing, public health, and healthcare administration.
- Differentiate and correctly document patient’s information in the appropriate subheadings of the EHRs. Identify and correct errors in the EHRs. Interpret EHRs accurately in making diagnoses. Perform focus assessments and safety risks.
- Analyze large amounts of EHR data, AI can help tailor treatments for individual patients based on their specific medical needs, leading to smarter, more efficient healthcare outcomes.
- Engage with SimChart, learners bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, reinforcing their ability to utilize EHR systems efficiently in professional healthcare settings.
- Participate in the AIM-AHEAD annual meeting, where awardees will have the opportunity to present an individual or group poster on the usage of EHR.
